Analogic acquires interest in Cedara Software

OCTOBER 2--Analogic Corp. (Peabody, MA; www.analogic.com) has acquired a 19% interest in Cedara Software Corp. (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; www.cedara.com) in return for an equity investment of US $7.5 million and other considerations.

OCTOBER 2--Analogic Corp. (Peabody, MA; www.analogic.com) has acquired a 19% interest in Cedara Software Corp. (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; www.cedara.com) in return for an equity investment of US $7.5 million and other considerations. "Analogic and Cedara have major customers in common," observed Bernard M. Gordon, chairman of Analogic. "We see significant opportunities for both companies by working together to better serve our customers. Cedara is an independent provider of imaging software technology and custom imaging-software development to leading OEMs in the health-care industry. Analogic is an OEM supplier of medical imaging systems and advanced subsystems. Working together, Analogic and Cedara have the ability to offer more extensive solutions to the rapidly evolving OEM market."

Cedara enables health-care solution providers to integrate imaging software into their systems and hardware in such fields as computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Approximately 30% of the MRI systems sold today incorporate Cedara software. Cedara's software is also implemented across a number of other digital imaging modalities, including angiography, digital radiography, echocardiology, fluoroscopy, mammography, nuclear medicine, and ultrasound, as well as Picture Archiving and Communications Systems, and image-guided surgery systems.
