Recently ratified AIA GigE Vision standard is now a standard interface of many digital cameras.

The adoption of Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) by the machine-vision industry has increased steadily since the first products were introduced in 2002 and is now set for rapid expansion. IMS Research predicts that GigE connectivity in vision systems will grow at an annual rate of more than 30% over the next three to five years-faster than any other connectivity protocol.
