US Air Force awards airborne tactical hyperspectral sensor system contract to Raytheon

During the Paris Air Show, Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) announce that it has been awarded a contract from the US Air Force to produce the first airborne tactical hyperspectral sensor system. The system, known as the Airborne Cueing and Exploitation System Hyperspectral (ACES HY) is an infrared sensor system.


During the Paris Air Show (June 20-26), Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) announce that it has been awarded a contract from the US Air Force to produce the first airborne tactical hyperspectral sensor system. The system, known as the Airborne Cueing and Exploitation System Hyperspectral (ACES HY) is an infrared sensor system developed to identify targets based on their spectral characteristics.

In September 2010, Raytheon worked with the Air Force to complete flight testing of ACES HY on a manned Twin Otter aircraft used as a surrogate for the MQ-1 Predator unmanned system. Satellite-borne hyperspectral imaging systems have already been tested and deployed by the Air Force.

As the prime systems integrator for ACES HY, Raytheon leads team members L3 Integrated Optical Systems and Space Computer Corporation. The ACES HY Program is managed by the US Air Force Aeronautical Systems Center at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
