The agenda forNIWeek 2011, held in Austin, TX, August 2-4, will again include a two-day Vision Summit with technical sessions, workshops, and exhibits focused on machine vision and image processing products, practices, and technologies. The Vision Summit will be presented by National Instruments (NI) developers, industry experts, and academics. It will include talks on machine vision and intelligent production systems, 3-D vision and Microscoft Kinect, FPGA image processing case studies, emerging camera technologies, and vision-guided industrial robotics.

The scheduledkeynote presentations are:

How NI Technology Powers the Space Elevator: The NASA-sponsored Power Beaming Challenge in the Space Elevator Games led to a system that can transfer power wirelessly via laser light to a remote, airborne, mobile photovoltaic receiver located 1 km away or more. A machine vision system automatically locates the receiver and steers the laser beam. Presented by LaserMotive

Industry Trends and Intelligent Production Systems of the Future: This talk looks at trends in the vision industry and techniques that are being borrowed and adapted across industries and applications. Presented by Björn Damm, Executive Director, Interdisciplinary Imaging and Vision Institute, RWTH Aachen University

Technical Sessions

- 3-D Vision and Kinect, including how Kinect works and using 3-D imaging in numerous applications

- FPGA Image Processing Case Studies, showing how FPGAs can significantly boost accuracy and throughput of certain vision applications.

- Panel Discussion: The Latest in Camera Technologies, includes experts from five camera companies share their views on the latest camera technologies including emerging camera buses, synchronization, bus-powered imaging protocols, and image sensors.

- Machine Vision and Industrial Robotics: From Design Concepts to Factory Floor Deployment, explores best practices to build vision-guided robotic production machines using NI LabVIEW.

Plans for NIWeek 2011

NIWeek 2011 is National Instruments' 17th annual technology conference and is expected to attract more than 3,000 engineers, educators, and scientists from around the world.

“Graphical system design has gone mainstream, adopted by engineers worldwide for far-reaching and impactful applications such as the world’s first real-time 3-D OCT medical-imaging system and revolutionary airborne technology that uses renewable energy to power remote villages,” said Dr. James Truchard, NI CEO, president, and cofounder. “NIWeek will explore the technology behind graphical system design, how it is used and how you can apply it to increase your productivity.”

NIWeek 2011 highlights include the following:

- More than 250 technical presentations by NI engineers and industry experts
- Five technical summits focused on aerospace and defense, energy technology, RF and wireless, robotics and autonomous vehicles, and vision
- Four technical tracks concentrated on embedded monitoring and control, software development techniques, test and data acquisition, and structural test and measurement
- Daily keynotes with NI executives and industry leaders
- Interactive demonstrations on the exhibit floor from more than 75 companies such as Alfamation, Averna, Cal-Bay Systems, Texas Instruments, and Xilinx
- Special events including NI Alliance Day, Academic Forum, Big Physics symposium, Build Your Own Embedded System workshop, and The Future of System Design symposium
