Signal-processing functions being collected to simplify image-processing hardware

Freescale Semiconductor (Austin, TX) has selected Mentor Graphics (Wilsonville, OR) to develop a software library of advanced mathematical and signal processing functions optimized for Freescale's AltiVec SIMD (Single Instructions, Multiple Data) parallel processors.

Freescale Semiconductor (Austin, TX, USA) has selected Mentor Graphics (Wilsonville, OR, USA) to develop a software library of advanced mathematical and signal processing functions optimized for Freescale's AltiVec SIMD (Single Instructions, Multiple Data) parallel processors.

The library will include more than 800 mathematical and signal processing functions such as fast Fourier transforms (FFT), convolutions, correlations, FIR filters, IIR filters, element-wise vector functions, and linear algebra functions.

It is expected to simplify the development of products targeting a variety of applications such as radar/sonar image processing, target tracking, navigation systems, medical diagnostic imaging, and video surveillance systems.

The royalty-free library for Freescale's AltiVec processing engines is expected to be released in mid-summer 2012.

A white paper with a preliminary list of functions that will be available in the library is available.
