A library of software routines aimed at helping software engineers developcomputer vision applications for mobile devices has been launched by Qualcomm (San Diego, CA, USA).

The so-called Computer Vision (FastCV) library is designed to run on any ARM-based processors, while an accelerated version of the library is also available that is targeted specifically at Qualcomm’s “Snapdragon” hardware.

Developers can use the elements in the library to buildgesture recognition, face detection, tracking and recognition, text recognition and tracking augmented reality into their camera-based applications.

A FastCV Software Development Toolkit (SDK) -- which includes a sample application to help illustrate the capabilities of the toolkit -- can be downloaded fromthe company's developer site.
