Free webcast sheds light on 3-D imaging

A new free-to-attend webcast from Vision Systems Design will explain how 3-D systems are being used in service and industrial robotics, in packaging and palletizing applications and reverse engineering.

In the one hour webcast, Daniel Lau, the President and CEO of Lau Consulting (Lexington, KY, USA), will first explain the differences between the different types of 3-D sensors that are available, the resolutions and ranges that can be achieved, and the typical costs involved.

He will then describe a variety of systems based 3-D sensors that have been used in industry, including single cameras mounted on robots, two- and three-camera systems, time of flight systems, and products that use fringe projection to capture 3-D images.

The web cast should prove of interest to system designers requiring an understanding of 3-D technologies, system integrators planning on deploying 3-D systems, and those interested in 3-D reconstruction.

Dr. Lau himself received a BSc in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN, USA) in 1995 and a PhD from the University of Delaware (Newark, DE, USA) in 1999. Today, he is an Associate Professor at the University of Kentucky (Lexington, KY, USA).
