CMOSIS acquired by private equity firm

On December 3, CMOSIS announced that TA Associates, a global growth private equity firm, has agreed acquire the company in a deal that is conditional on regulatory clearance, and expected to be completed in early 2014.

On December 3, CMOSIS announced that TA Associates, a global growth private equity firm, has agreed acquire the company in a deal that is conditional on regulatory clearance, and expected to be completed in early 2014.

CMOSIS is an Antwerp, Belgium-based manufacturer of image sensors for industrial, scientific, and professional markets. Specifically, image sensors from CMOSIS are often used in machine vision,aerospace, biometrics applications, and medical diagnostics. Here are some recently released products which use CMOSIS sensors:

"This transaction will allow CMOSIS to continue growing as an independent company with the support of TA Associates, a strong financial partner that has an impressive track record in building technology companies and is committed to supporting our future growth," Luc De Mey, Chairman and CEO of CMOSIS, said in a press release.

In addition, J. Morgan Seigler, a Principal at TA Associates, said that the CMOSIS management team has demonstrated expertise in the development of image sensors and that TA Associates are "excited to partner with such experienced and successful entrepreneurs."

Both TA Associates and CMOSIS will hope to capitalize on the expansion of the image sensor market, which Yole Développement predicts will exceed $8 billion by 2014. CMOSIS will focus its efforts on machine vision, production cameras, traffic enforcement, medical devices, and high-end consumer products, according to the press release.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
