Research and development company Sentio has developed a GigE camera-based analytical system designed to provide data about physical, technical, and tactical performance of players during a sporting event.

Sentio’s first product, the Sentioscope, features two Basler aviator avA1900-50gc cameras, one laptop, and one tablet PC. Basler avA1900-50gc GigE cameras feature a 2/3” Truesense Imaging KAI-2150 progressive scan, global shutter CCD image sensor with a pixel size of 5.5 µm x 5.5 µm.

The color cameras—which achieve a maximum frame rate of 51 fps, also feature an external trigger for synchronization and exposure control and a C-Mount lens mount. In addition, these GigE Vision and GenICam compliant cameras feature Basler’s pylon camera software suite and industrial housing with safe locking connections.

Sentioscope systems are designed to capture real time images in any weather with a setup that reportedly takes less than 10 minutes to complete. The purpose of the systems, which are already installed in two local soccer (football) stadiums in Istanbul, Turkey, is to provide analytics on performance and tactical aspects of the game to support decision-making during game play and game stoppage.

Hannes Klehr, working for Basler’s distributer in Turkey (OSB Vision Systems) recommended that Sentio choose this particular model of Basler camera for the Sentioscope project. Ermre Ercin, cofounder and COO for Sentio explained in the case study that Sentio chose the cameras as a result of them satisfying the optical requirements, as well as being able to provide local technical support.
