In need of a way to ensure pantone color matching validation, a prominent US-based car manufacturer recently had a vision system installed to ensure consistent paint matching results.
The system used Lumenera Lg11059 cameras for pantone color validation as part of a color fault detection system for the large unnamed automotive manufacturing facility. The 11 MPixel Lg11059 cameras feature a Kodak KAI-11002 CCD image sensor with 9 µm x 9 µm pixel size that achieves 4.3 fps at full resolution and 13.7 fps at 640 x 480. The cameras also feature a bit depth of 8 or 14-bit, USB 2.0 or GigE interface, manual and automatic exposure control, and hardware/software trigger controls.
Canon EF lens control enables remote management of focus and iris elements, ensuring that no employee ever needs to make manual adjustments to the camera itself. In addition, all other aspects and functionalities are remotely controlled. Advanced camera controls are also available through the camera’s software development kit.
Images captured by the cameras in the automotive manufacturing assembly are output via GigE interface that travel 300 ft. to an industrial PC. From there, the PC, which is equipped with Lumenera custom LabVIEW drivers, performs an accurate color match analysis.
