The Global Machine Vision Interface Standards brochure—a collaborative effort between the AIA, European Machine Vision Association (EMVA), and the Japanese Industrial Imaging Association (JIIA) and their collective members—is now available online.
Within the brochure are detailed explanations of vision industry standards, detailed specifications on hardware and software interface standards, and a comparison chart, which can be used to guide the selection of the most appropriate standard for an application.
Hardware standards covered in the brochure include Camera Link, Camera Link HS, GigE Vision, USB3 Vision (AIA), and CoaXPress (JIIA). In addition, the software standards covered in the brochure include GenICam (EMVA), and IIDC2 (JIIA).
This new brochure represents the first time that the industry has come together to provide a definitive resource on what machine vision interface standards are, and how they compare to each other, said Bob McCurrach, Director of Standards Development for the AIA.
"In the past, you may have seen piecemeal comments on key parameters for the various standards, and even gotten different answers from different parties regarding bandwidth, cable length, etc.," he said. "Here we were able to get all the industry stakeholders together, to develop a common group of parameters, and to agree on the values across the standards."
McCurrach explaned that face-to-face meetings where the details behind all of the comparisons were discussed was crucial, and that the whole effort is serves as an example of what can be accomplished with the major vision trade associations workingt together for the industry.
He added, "The response to the brochure has been quite extremely positive. This brochure is a key tool for vision integrators and distributors to communicate the interoperability, value and flexibility that standardized solutions offer to vision users."
