In an effort to bring together international robotics industry professionals in one place to discuss the latest advancements in the field, the Robotic Industries Association (RIA) will host the one-day International Collaborative Robots Workshop on September 30 at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, California.

The workshop—which AIA President Jeff Burnstein said is being held in Silicon Valley due to the location being a "hotbed for robotics research and start-ups"—will provide a meeting place for industry leaders, researchers, suppliers, and users. Speakers will discuss where the industry is today, and where it is headed in the future. In addition to tabletop exhibits and a reception, the agenda includes the following:

  • Overview of Collaborative Robots – Erik Nieves, Yaskawa Motoman
  • Collaborative Robot Technology and Applications – Dr. Rodney Brooks, Rethink Robotics and Esben Østergaard, Universal Robots (Part I); Michael Beupre, KUKA Robotics and Claude Dinsmoor, FANUC America (Part II)
  • Safety Implications of Collaborative Robots – Pat Davison, RIA, Bjoern Matthias, ABB
  • Advances in Gripping – Sam Bouchard, Robotiq
  • Future of Collaborative Robots – Rich Mahoney, SRI International and Steve Cousins, Savioke
  • Collaborative Robot User Panel – Understanding the Need of Collaborative Robot Users – Moderated by Dr. Henrick Christensen, Georgia Tech, featuring Stefan Bartscher, BMW; John Dulchinos, Jabil; Marty Linn, General Motors; and Dan Sipes, Novartis Foundation.
  • Q&A with Collaborative Robot Users

This idea stems from the first ever collaborative robots workshop, which the RIA held during the AIA Vision Show on April 16 of this year.
