When speaking about the VISION show to friends and family, one of the things I emphasize is how exciting it was to meet with companies from all over the globe. During the show, I spoke with people from Germany, the United States, Belgium, Italy, England, Scotland, Israel, India, Canada, France, Ireland, China, Taiwan, Finland, and South Korea.

Vision Systems Design announces 2015 Innovators Awards program
One of the folks from South Korea that I sat down and had a conversation with was Ryan Kyung, Industrial Sales Group Assistant Manager at Vieworks. When I asked Kyung about whether he thought the machine vision industry was expanding and why, he offered a response that was specific to his company’s location.
"South Korea is very strong in industrial applications right now," he said. "The flat panel inspection market is the largest in the world and growing, and as a result, Vieworks has benefitted from this."
"For other markets," he added, "there are so many different types of applications, and so you need many different types of cameras."

As a result of an expanding market and the ongoing need to meet customer demands, Vieworks has developed some CMOS cameras and CoaXPress products, Kyung said. However, on the whole, Vieworks does not follow one specific rule when it comes to developing new products.
"Sometimes we will develop custom products and determine if it will work as a standard model in the market," he said. "Other times, we perform market research to develop our products, such as the new CoaXPress products we’ve developed."
For Vieworks, the next challenge is line scan cameras, according to Kyung.
"These are a big market share, and we’ve recently introduced a line scan camera," he said. "We would like to have this become a strength for us next year."
Looking toward the future and possible growth areas, Kyung noted that industrial imaging is definitely the primary area for Vieworks, but the company has had inquiries on intelligent transportation systems. As a result, the company may look into this market going forward in order to expand their horizons.
