Nigel Watson, author of UFO Investigations Manual said of the incident, "It is a shame this has tarnished the reputation of all the so-called experts who attended this event," and that, "This must be considered the lowest point UFO research has ever descended to, but it won’t stop some saying that this was deliberately staged to undermine ufology, or from others believing these are images of an alien whatever anyone says."
Is it really the lowest point that UFO research has ever descended to? Because I’m not so sure it is. I’ll point you to one of my favorite internet memes, as an example. And yes, this man is on a real television show, which airs on the History channel. Here is a little montage of some of this man's musings.
On a more serious note, consider the size our solar system within the scope of the universe. Our solar system, which consists of the sun and everything bound to it by gravity, is just a tiny part of the Milky Way galaxy. To cross the Milky Way, it would take 100,000 years (Light years, that is.) According to NASA, there are at least 100,000,000,000 galaxies in the universe. Pondering the vastness of the universe is something that is almost incomprehensible.
The point I’m getting at here, which I suppose is still just an opinion, is that a high probability exists, given the size of the universe, that some form of life has to exist beyond Earth. However, that doesn’t mean you should be gullible, and believe everything you watch, hear, or read. (Particularly in the tabloid aisle.) I’ll leave you with a quote from the sci-fi television show the X-Files, which seems appropriate here:
“Mulder, the truth is out there but so are lies."
