Nearly two years apart, two separateVision Systems Design slideshows took a look at current (at the time) robotics applications. How much have things changed from 2013 to 2015? Let’s take a look.
In 2010, we published an article called "10 innovative current and future robotic applications," that provided a look at 10 examples of robots and robotic systems in use across multiple sectors, including military and defense, food and beverage, factory automation, and entertainment and media. In the article, it was noted that in 2013, global robot sales will increase by about 2%, but from 2014 to 2016, the industry will see its worldwide sales jump by about 6% on average per year, as a result of further penetration into industrial segments like electronics and food and beverage, as well as the continuing industrialization of emerging nations.
Fast forward to nearly two years later; where I covered 10 more unique ways that robots are being deployed in the industry today in the article, "Robots rising: 10 distinctly unique ways robots are being deployed."
"Robotic systems are now commonplace in many automated manufacturing processes."
This sentence, from an April 2015 article on robots being used to increase manufacturing productivity in factory automation applications, should be quite clear to our readers (and beyond.) But in addition to the automation and manufacturing applications robots are being used in, robotic technology has spread to a vast amount of other applications.
As predicted, robots are being deployed in industrial applications that increase manufacturing productivity, but are also being used in such applications as neurosurgery, crop harvesting, oil spill cleanup, scientific research, and in the kitchen!
