This year, Vision Systems Design celebrates its 20th anniversary. Throughout the year—as part of our Vision 20/20 series— we are going to encourage people to think about where the imaging and machine vision industry could be headed in the next 20 years, while also taking a look back at the past 20 years.

This year, Vision Systems Design celebrates its 20th anniversary. Throughout the year—as part of our Vision 20/20series we are going to encourage people to think about where the imaging and machine vision industry could be headed in the next20 years, while also taking a look back at the past 20 years.

In this, our first look back at the past of Vision Systems Design, we go back to 1996, where it all started. In addition to welcoming everyone and introducing the magazine, Issue 1 takes a look at a wide variety of topics and technologies.

Feature article topics include motion-based vision systems, X-ray analysis, frame grabbers, and vision system performance. In the new products section, such technologies as frame grabbers and imaging boards, fluorescent and LED lighting, CCD cameras, imaging software, line scan cameras, and more, are highlighted. While some of these may sound familiar, I would recommend taking a look at these to see just how much the specifications and capabilities have changed.

In the Tech Trends section, applications including 3D scanning, video display, microscopy, imaging analysis, UV imaging, and medical imaging are covered.

If you want to see how far technology within the industry has come, take a look back at Volume 1, Issue 1,here.

We will continue to highlight archived issues in the future, so keep an eye out for more “blast from the past” articles from Vision Systems Design.
