In 2016,RMA Electronics, Inc. celebrates its 30th year in business as a distributor of machine vision and industrial imaging hardware and software products.

Originally launched in 1986 as manufacturer’s representative company Ronald A. Massa Associates, the company old sold products within New England. Early on, the company represented early pioneers such as Basler, Inc., Coreco (now part of Teledyne Dalsa), Eastman Kodak Co., Illumination Technologies, Pulnix America, Inc. (now JAI, Inc.), and Univision among others.

Today, the business has expanded to serve customers globally in such industries as military and defense, airport security, motion picture studios, and research and development, in addition to the machine vision and industrial automation markets.

"In the early days, user know-how was very limited and prices were very high for industrial vision products like cameras and frame grabbers," said Ron Massa, Sr., founder and CEO. "A lot of customer education was needed. I’ve been in the PC-based vision industry since the market was created in the early 1980’s with the introduction of the personal computer."

He added: "Today we are one of the oldest companies specializing in PC-based machine vision hardware and software products. We still aim to educate customers, but it’s just on a different level than it was 30 years ago."

In 1994, current president Ron Massa Jr. joined the company, and in 2004, the company incorporated and changed its name to RMA Electronics, Inc. (reflecting its Ronald A. Massa Associates beginnings). Today, the company carries lenses, cameras, boards, software, filters, cables, and monitors from companies all over the globe.
