AUVSI testifies in Senate on benefits UAVs bring to small businesses
AUVSI President and CEO Brian Wynne provided a testimony before the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, describing the benefits that UAVs are expected to bring to the nation’s economy, particularly when technology is used by small businesses.
"UAS increase human potential, allowing us to execute dangerous or difficult tasks safely and efficiently,” Wynne said in the prepared remarks. “From inspecting pipelines and surveying bridges to filming movies and providing farmers with aerial views of their crops, the applications of UAS are virtually limitless. It’s no wonder businesses – small and large – are clamoring to use this technology.”

AT&T and Intel testing drones on LTE network
AT&T and Intel have agreed to test how UAVs operate on a network designed to connect devices to the ground, according to the AUVSI.
In order to access features such as live view of cameras and sensors on the drone or operating it beyond line of sight, a network like AT&T is required for connectivity, according to a company press release. AT&T will work with Intel to evaluate the performance of LTE in areas of high altitude to test video streaming, transmitting telematics, and flight information.

British Royal Navy to hold "Robot Wars" this fall
Taking place off the coast of Scotland this October will be the first ever “Unmanned Warrior 2016” robot wars.
Held by the British Royal Navy, the event will feature a large-scale demonstration of the latest autonomous systems technologies, including vehicles and sensors that operate in the air, on the surface, and underwater. The Navy hopes that the event will ‘demonstrate British innovation and shine a spotlight on British industry,’ in a ‘tactically relevant environment.’
The Royal Navy has invited manufacturing firms and NATO member countries to take part in the event.
