In 2016, FRAMOS is celebrating its 35th year as a provider and partner in machine vision and imaging worldwide.

The company was founded in 1981 by Bernd Franz, who initially focused on the distribution of image sensors, supported by a strong partnership with Sony. Throughout the 80s, the company came to develop into the industrial image processing expert it has become today. Over the years, the company continued to expand its portfolio to include partners in the fields of image sensors, optics, industrial cameras, and other imaging components. In 2008, Bernd Franz’s son Dr. Andreas Franz took over lead of the company.

"With services from purchasing through technological advice and development support up to warehousing and support, FRAMOS can assist customers as a partner along the entire supply chain from development to production," he said. "The ideal application solution for the customer on the basis of finding a manufacturer-independent advisory service is essential for us during each step of the project."

Additionally, the company expanded its reach in Europe, North America, and Asia, with the company now having subsidiaries in Great Britain, Italy, France, Canada, and Taiwan. At The Vision Show 2016 in Boston, I spoke with Sebastien Dignard, President of FRAMOS Technologies Inc. about a number of different topics, including the company’s approach to business, a growth period for the machine vision and imaging industry, and new trends in vision.

Furthermore, in recent years FRAMOS has developed a number of its own products, including the volume light grid VLG or the optical 3D tracking system OTS, as well as reference design kits for Sony CMOS sensors.

Within the last decade, FRAMOS has grown from 10 to 100 employees, and remains forever looking forward to future developments.

"With deep-learning algorithms, networking in the cloud and new collaboration approaches between human, machine and systems, the magic is actually in image processing, as it is in the processing of the underlying software and the intelligent use of data," said Franz. "There is still huge potential, and we are happy, as a full-service provider, to further develop our expertise for and with our customers."
