Matrox Imaging and Varioptic have announced that the Matrox Iris GTR smart camera now supports the Caspian C variable focus liquid lens.

The Iris GTR camera features an ON Semiconductor PYTHON CMOS image sensor and is designed for systems integrators, machine builders and OEMs of factory automation solutions. The smart camera features IP67-reated housing, M12 connectors, and an Intel Celeron dual-core embedded processor and comes pre-installed with Microsoft Windows Embedded Standard 7 or Linux.

Varioptic’s Caspian C lenses are variable focus C-Mount lenses that feature a liquid lens and embedded driving circuit, and are available in focal lengths of 16 mm or 25 mm.

Fabio Perelli, Product Manager at Matrox Imaging, commented: “Our customers developing automated visual inspection applications are more and more confronted with the need to overcome focusing issues” he said. “Manufacturing lines need to increasingly adapt themselves to various product sizes, and designing our Matrox Iris GTR camera to be compatible with the Varioptic solution will allow our customers to overcome these issues with no additional development.”

Samuel Grand, Varioptic BU Director, added: “We are pleased that Matrox has selected to support our Caspian C modules on its latest smart camera” he said. “Having cameras directly compatible with our modules allows instant usage of variable focus technology with no extra costs”
