Iris M vision system from RDI Technologies enables non-contact motion amplification

Jan. 12, 2017
The Iris M from RDI Technologies is a vision system consisting of a monochrome USB3 camera, imaging software, four lenses, a USB3 cable, and an acquisition system that features an Intel i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB or 500 GB SSD, dual batteries, IP65 housing, and MIL-STD-810-G standard drop protection.

The Iris M from RDI Technologies is a vision system consisting of a monochrome USB3 camera, imaging software, four lenses (choice of 6 mm, 12 mm, 25 mm, 50 mm, and 100 mm), a USB3 cable, and an acquisition system that features an Intel i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB or 500 GB SSD, dual batteries, IP65 housing, and MIL-STD-810-G standard drop protection.

Iris M, according to RDI Technologies, is powered by Motion Amplification software, which measures deflection, displacement, movement, and vibration not visible to the human eye. The software and processing algorithms are utilized to extract meaningful data by turning every pixel in the camera’s view into a sensor capable of measuring vibration or motion, according to the company. Motion Amplification was designed to produce an easy-to-understand amplified video of motion, which enables users to assess critical operations, processes, quality, and structural components that affect plant reliability and productivity.

The camera used in the system is a GS3-U3-23S6M-C USB3 camera from FLIR Integrated Imaging Solutions. The monochrome camera features the 2.3 MPixel Sony IMX174 global shutter CMOS image sensor, which features a 5.86 µm pixel size and reaches 163 fps. Additionally, the Iris M system comes with a waterproof case, vibration pads, and a professional grade tripod. View a video of what the system produces here.
