Using vision to enable autonomous land, sea, air, and space vehicles

Feb. 27, 2017
In a keynote presentation from the 2016 Embedded Vision Summit, Larry Matthies, senior research scientist at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, discusses the vision technologies that are enabling autonomous vehicles deployed on land, in the sea, in the air, and even in space.

Vision has become a near-ubiquitous technology, as its used in applications including industrial inspection, process monitoring, medical imaging, security and surveillance, and many more.

One emerging application that has been gaining traction as of late is autonomous vehicles and robotics. Vision is perhaps the most important enabling technology within autonomous vehicles, which include those deployed on land, in the sea, in the air, and even in space. In a keynote presentation from the 2016 Embedded Vision Summit, Larry Matthies, senior research scientist at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, discusses these technologies and applications in depth.

“Using Vision to Enable Autonomous Land, Sea and Air Vehicles,” takes a look at autonomous vehicle computer vision applications, as well as the approaches and concepts, with examples from applications on Earth and in planetary exploration.
