DWFritz Automation will showcase its new automated seal inspection (ASI) system that is designed specifically for medical manufacturing at Automate 2017. The custom-made machine, which will be used to verify the package integrity of sterile Class II and III medical devices and supplies, verifies the integrity of sterile pack seals while simultaneously reducing manual inspection costs. The system was designed to detect hair, foreign particles, voids, weaknesses, and other defects. ASI inspects all sides of the seal by drawing in the packages on an automated conveyor and picking them up with a vacuum chuck that can pick up even porous packages. ASI scans the packages over several rows of high-resolution cameras using a specialized lighting technique calling disruptive total internal reflection.
