This past October, my colleague Andy Wilson wrote an article on how a number of different technologies are being deployed to perform various 3D imaging tasks. In it, he said that while the most well-known 3D imaging system is a stereo camera system, other products including fringe pattern projection, structured light-based systems, and time of flight cameras are being used to capture 3D information. This slideshow will take a look at six entirely different and unique uses of 3D imaging, including applications that use a CT-based system, a Microsoft Kinect, a 3D scanner, and a system that uses X-ray microtomography.
