MAY 25--Genesis Microchip Inc. (Alviso, CA; www.gnss.com), a developer of image-processing technologies for LCD monitors, flat-panel televisions, and consumer display products, has announced that the US International Trade Commission (ITC; Washington, DC; www.usitc.gov) has determined that Media Reality Technologies Inc. (MRT; Taipei, Taiwan, China.; www.mrti.com) and Trumpion Microelectronics (Taiwan, ROC; www.trumpion.com.tw) both infringe Genesis Microchip's US Patent No. 5,739,867 entitled "Method and Apparatus for Upscaling an Image in both Horizontal and Vertical Directions." As a result of this ruling, the ITC is expected to issue an exclusion order preventing the import of MRT and Trumpion's display controllers into the United States, as well as monitors and boards containing these products.
In an earlier initial determination, the ITC found that MStar Semiconductor (Hsinchu (ChuPei), Taiwan; www.mstarsemi.com) infringes the same patent. The ITC is expected to issue an exclusion order preventing the importation of MStar's display controllers into the United States, as well as monitors and boards containing these products.
