JUNE 23--Edmund Optics (Barrington, NJ; www.edmundoptics.com) Singapore manufacturing facility recently attained ISO 9001:2000 certification. ISO 9001:2000 covers requirements for a world-class QMS. According to Francis Ang, director of the Singapore facility, "Our certification assures customers of our commitment to quality and continuous improvement, which reduces their total costs while providing great products. We didn't have to upgrade systems to attain certification, they were already in place."

In addition to ISO 9001 certification, Edmund Optics has invested heavily in state-of-the-art quality-assurance equipment globally. These investments include Zygo GPXi Interferometers, Optikos MTF (Modulation Transfer Function) test systems, and Trioptics computerized centering scopes.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is the specialized international agency for standardization, comprising the national standards bodies of, at present, 91 countries. ISO exists to promote standardization and related world activities that facilitate the international exchange of goods and services, and to develop cooperation in intellectual, scientific, technological, and economic activity.

Edmund Optics is a supplier of optics and optical components, designing and manufacturing a wide array of multielement lenses, lens coatings, imaging systems, and optomechanical equipment.
