Quick hit: CCD cameras enable planetary imaging

The Imaging Source and Celestron have announced a collaborative new line of astronomical CCD cameras. Each of the six color and monochromatic Skyris models will enable users to view the solar system and capture planetary images.

The Imaging Source and Celestron have announced a collaborative new line of astronomical CCD cameras. Each of the six color and monochromatic Skyris models will enable users to view the solar system and capture planetary images.

Skyris cameras feature the Sony EXView HAD CCD image sensor and a high-speed USB 3.0 connection. In addition, the 12-bit image output outranges the standard 8-bit image output, which enables the capturing of clear images of the solar system.

Each model is surrounded by Celestron’s external camera housing which is designed for improved heat dissipation to minimize the temperature effect on CCD noise. Celestron iCap software, along with stacking software, aids with capturing, filtering, aligning, stacking, and exporting images.
