In its most recent monthly newsletter, the European Machine Vision Association (EMVA) announced that it has added three new members to the fold: FLIR Systems AB, ON Semiconductor, and Vision srl.

FLIR Systems AB is a business entity within FLIR Systems Inc., which consists of six divisions:

  • Surveillance
  • Instruments
  • OEM & Emerging
  • Maritime
  • Security
  • Detection

FLIR Systems AB is the main operational entity for the Instruments division. FLIR Systems AB designs, develops, and manufactures thermal cameras with temperature measurement capabilities for such applications as industrial automation, building inspection, electro-mechanical inspection, research and development, firefighting, and optical gas imaging.

ON Semiconductor offers a comprehensive portfolio of energy efficient power and signal management, logic, discrete and custom solutions to help design engineers solve their unique design challenges in automotive, communications, computing, consumer, industrial, LED lighting, medical, military/aerospace and power supply applications.

In terms of imaging and machine vision, the company—which has sales offices and design centers in key markets throughout North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific regions—recently acquired both Aptina and Truesense Imaging. As a result, ON Semiconductor created a fourth business unit dedicated specifically to image sensors.

Michael DeLuca, product marketing, Image Sensor Business Unit, ON Semiconductor, told Vision Systems Design at VISION 2014 in Stuttgart that the overall health of the global industry helped created this opportunity.

"Machine vision continues to expand into new applications," said DeLuca. "As technology expands, so does the need for automation and productivity, which creates new opportunities."

Lastly, the EMVA also added Vision srl, an Italian company founded in 1986 that designs, manufactures, installs, and maintains quality control systems by means of machine vision technology and proprietary software for any industrial sector aiming to a “zero defects” production.

Also of note in the monthly newsletter is news that FRAMOS has expanded their logistics solutions with the hire of Michael Schalk as senior account manager. Schalk—a physicist with more than 30 years of experience—is tasked with expanding the logistics solutions market at FRAMOS.

"Michael Schalk is responsible for the sales of our logistics solutions and for development of logistics projects in the DACH region and Northern and Eastern Europe regions," said Dr. Simon Che'Rose, head of FRAMOS Imaging Systems. “We are delighted to welcome such a specialised and experienced sales colleague to our team!"

Schalk has worked at ISRA Vision, Baumer Ident, and Vitronic, and has vast knowledge of the logistics and image processing markets. He now supports the Imaging Systems team in the marketing of the VLG volume measurement system and other custom developments and technologies for logistics.
