XIMEA and Components Express announce joint USB 3.0 product interoperability

Components Express Incorporated (CEI) and XIMEA have announced joint product interoperability between CEI’s BitMaxx 25M Extended distance cable and XIMEA’s USB 3.0 camera line.

Components Express Incorporated (CEI) and XIMEA have announced joint product interoperability between CEI’s BitMaxx 25M Extended distance cable and XIMEA’s USB 3.0 camera line.

CEI’s BitMaxxUSB3 Vision cable enables USB3 Vision cameras to be operated up to 25 meters from a host computer, and supports data rates of up to 5Gbps and requires no external power supply. XIMEA’s portfolio of USB 3.0 cameras proved to be highly compatible with both CEI’s shorter and longer cable products.

"The utilization of pre-emphasis and equalization allows CEI to counteract the effects of attenuation over the distance of the cable and achieve a length comparable to other high speed vision systems. This enables CEI to provide an extended length solution addressing the limitations of standard passive USB3.0 cabling," said Steve Mott, Vice President of Components Express.

Both companies conducted the testing separately in order to confirm interoperability.

"CEI’s new 25 meter cable fixes the hole in the offering for medium range distances of USB 3.0 cables, thus equipping customers with the option to enjoy proven benefits of USB3 SuperSpeed technology while having industrial cameras still further away from the processing backend," said Max Larin, CEO of XIMEA. "We are happy to see more choice that covers the inevitable demand for higher bandwidth than that provided by GigE, being more cost effective than Camera Link, which now can be satisfied by the combination of USB3 Vision cameras from XIMEA armed with BitMaxx cable from Components Express."

Both companies were recent winners in the 2015 Vision Systems DesignInnovators Awards program. Components Express won a bronze-level award for its BitMaxx USB3 Vision 25M cable while XIMEA also won a bronze award for its hyperspectral USB 3.0 cameras, which are xiQ USB 3.0 cameras integrated with hyperspectral imaging sensors from imec.
