Numerous challenges exist when it comes to cluttered work spaces in vision-guided robotics, including random bins in factories and distribution centers or mixed case pallets in warehouses.
In an archived webcast that took place this past October, Jared Glover, Co-Founder of CapSen Robotics provided an overview of some of the recent advancements in 3D computer vision software for such environments where clutter is either unavoidable or too expensive to eliminate with special purpose hardware like bowl-feeders or shake tables.
Glover talked about the state of the art in 3D object pose estimation in clutter, with applications to robotic bin picking, pallet dimensioning, and robotic palletizing and depalletizing.
Some of the latest technologies for 3D-vision-guided robots were also discussed as well as information on how to determine if these technologies are right for your operation.
