DECEMBER 11--Imaging Automation (Bedford, NH; www.imagingauto.com) has been selected by Massport to deploy its BorderGuard technology at multiple locations in Logan International Airport (Boston, MA). The company's advanced document-authentication technology is being tested as part of Massport's initiative to put Logan Airport on the cutting edge of airport security, in addition to increasing security throughout the aviation system in general.

The cost-effective technology uses pattern- and facial-recognition technologies to verify both the document and the individual. Additionally, the technology speeds the check-in process, requires minimal training, and assists operators by automating the process of authenticating identification documents. The system allows for other biometric technologies and federal watchlists to be incorporated, further enhancing Logan's overall security solution.

Imaging Automation's technology reads and automatically detects forged and fraudulent passports, driver licenses, and other travel and identification documents within seconds; requires no pre-enrollment of data, so it detects irregularities with all travelers and is not limited to enrolled travelers or individuals appearing on watch lists; minimizes privacy issues; and is nonintrusive, compact, and easy to install or move to check-in desks, checkpoints, or gates.

The BorderGuard installment at Logan Airport will begin immediately. For security reasons, Massport will not disclose the specific locations where Imaging Automation's technology will be installed
