OCTOBER 21--View Engineering (Simi Valley, CA; www.vieweng.com) has acquired the assets of Micro-Metric (San Jose, CA), which produces high-magnification, noncontact critical-dimension and coordinate metrology systems used in the semiconductor, data storage, and MEMs industries. View Engineering provides large-area video and laser-based coordinate measuring systems for process monitoring and control in the data storage, microelectronics, printed-circuit, and precision machining industries. The combination strengthens Micro-Metric's capabilities in its core markets of microelectronics and data storage and expands the company's sales and service capabilities worldwide.

No changes in management or staffing of either company are planned. Micro-Metric will continue to operate its engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and applications support from its headquarters in San Jose.
