The proposed Centre of Excellence is intended to bridge the gap between skill demand and supply. The main objective of the center would be to introduce formal courses and provide infrastructure equipped with advanced machine-vision equipment and software. The CII will help REC identify technical and financial partners from its industrial members and formulate an industry-friendly curriculum. The partners would benefit from a supply of talent and an opportunity to pioneer the use of machine vision in relevant industrial applications.

K Sarukesi, principal of REC, said that, in the context of Indian companies trying to achieve global standards in quality and cost reduction, there was a need to produce a talent pool in the area of machine vision. Based on a roadmap prepared by the CII, he said that perhaps one thousand machine-vision engineers would be needed in southern India in the next ten years.
