APRIL 17, 2008--OSRAM (Santa Clara, CA, USA), a wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens, has opened its new Asia regional headquarters of its subsidiary, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, a specialist in semiconductor technology for lighting, sensor, and visualization applications. Headed by Alfred Felder, CEO OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Asia, the new office will initially house staff to coordinate sales and marketing activities in Asia.

OSRAM Opto Semiconductors selected Hong Kong for its regional headquarters to be nearer to customers and partners in Asia, especially Greater China, Korea, and Japan. Regional OSRAM activities for other business units have been located in Hong Kong since 2006.

The opening of the Hong Kong headquarters follows the groundbreaking in July 2007 of a second opto chip factory in Penang, Malaysia, which, when will open in spring 2009.
