  AUGUST 20--National Instruments Corp. (Austin, TX; www.ni.com) is celebrating its 25th anniversary by breaking down the wall between design engineers and manufacturing engineers.
• Braintech signs memorandum of understanding with Marubeni
  AUGUST 20--Braintech Inc. (North Vancouver, BC, Canada; www.braintech.com) has signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation (MOU) with Marubeni Corporation (Japan) that provides a framework for the companies to develop a series of comprehensive agreements surrounding Braintech?s vision science and robotic expertise.
• Radiological Physician Associates selects Algotec PACS to link more than 15 locations
  AUGUST 17--Algotec Systems Ltd. (Israel; www.algotec.com), a developer and systems integrator of Web-based image-management, archiving, processing, and communication systems sold under the name ImagiNet, has been selected by Radiological Physician Associates Inc. (RPA; Duluth, GA) to provide a comprehensive PACS and teleradiology solution linking its more than 15 referring facilities throughout a 350-square mile area.
• Fakespace Systems gets $4.5 million visualization-system contract
  AUGUST 16--Fakespace Systems Inc. (Kitchener, Ont., Canada; www.fakespacesystems.com), a business unit of Electrohome Ltd., was awarded a $4.5 million ($7 million Canadian) contract by the US Department of Energy (DoE) to design, build, and install several custom visualization systems at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL; Los Alamos, NM).
• Siemens named recipient of technology-leadership award
  AUGUST 15--Siemens Medical Systems Inc. (Iselin, NJ; www.siemensmedical.com) and Siemens Medical Solutions Health Services Corp. (Malvern, PA), the US affiliates of Siemens Medical Solutions (Erlangen, Germany), have been awarded the 2001 Market Engineering Technology Leadership Award for the US Teleradiology and PACS market from Frost & Sullivan (San Jose, CA; awards.frost.com).
• Cross Match Technologies receives NIST award for fingerprint technology
  AUGUST 15--Cross Match Technologies Inc. (Palm Beach Gardens, FL)--a provider of forensic-quality fingerprint and palm-print identification solutions--has been selected by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST; Gaithersburg, MD) to receive an Advanced Technology Program award of $2 million in cost-shared funding to develop a new type of biometric sensor.
• Voith Paper selects Cognex for web inspection
  AUGUST 14--Voith Paper Inc., a supplier of manufacturing technology for the paper industry, has purchased two Cognex Corp. (Natick, MA; www.cognex.com.) SmartView web-inspection systems for a project with a mill in the southeastern United States.
• German vision-system-component company changes management
  AUGUST 13--German machine-vision-component distributor Stemmer Imaging GmbH (Puchheim, Germany) has appointed Christof Zollitsch chief technical officer.
