• 1394b specification released
  MAY 22--The 1394 Trade Association (Santa Clara, CA; www.1394ta.org) has unveiled its new 1394b specification, the updated version of the electronics industry's multimedia bus.
• Semiconductor equipment sales continue to decline
  APRIL 25--According to Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI; Mountain View, CA; www.semi.org), North American-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment reported a preliminary March 2001 book-to-bill ratio of 0.64, a sharp drop from the February 2001 ratio of 0.77.
• German machine-vision industry achieves record sales
  APRIL 23--The approximately 250 companies involved in the German machine-vision industry have posted record sales for 2000.
• AIA Business Conference draws global audience
  The Automated Imaging Association (AIA)--the North American trade group of machine-vision technology--held its ninth annual Business Conference in Orlando, FL, last February, attracting nearly 180 attendees from Canada, England, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, and Switzerland who expressed favorable comments on the conference.
• Worldwide semiconductor sales drop for February
  APRIL 9--According to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA; San Jose, CA; www.semichips.org), worldwide sales of semiconductors totaled $15.5 billion for February 2001, a decrease of nearly 7% from the January 2001 level of $16.6 billion.
• Worldwide IC market to plummet
  APRIL 2--IC Insights Inc. (Scottsdale, AZ; www.insights.com) has reversed its 2001 worldwide IC market forecast from a 7% rise to a 9% drop.
• Semiconductor equipment orders plunge
  MARCH 23--According to Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI; Mountain View, CA; www.semi.org), the North American-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment reported a February 2001 book-to-bill ratio of 0.77.
• Sequential semiconductor sales drop for January 2001
  MARCH 12--Worldwide sales of semiconductors totaled $16.9 billion in January 2001, a rise of 13.7% over the $14.8 billion registered a year ago, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA; San Joe, CA; www.semichips.com).
• Semiconductor sales plunge in January
  FEB 21--According to Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI; San Jose, CA; www.semi.org), the North American-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment reported $1.9 billion in orders for January 2001 and a book-to-bill ratio of 0.81.
• PCI manufacturers elect officers
  The PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG; Wakefield, MA; www.picmg.org), a consortium of industrial-computer-product vendors dedicated to the creation of open industry standards, has re-elected all of its officers for 2001.
