  JULY 9--Nikon Instruments Inc. (Melville, NY) has formed the Nikon Semiconductor Inspection Technologies Group (Nikon Sitech).
• New European micro-optics company started
  JULY 3--SUSS MicroTec (Munich, Germany) has started a new micro-optics company, SUSS MicroOptics SA (Neuchatel, Switzerland).
• Nikon Instruments names new president
  JULY 3--Nikon Instruments Inc. (Melville, NY) has appointed Hiro Kusaka as president and chief executive officer.
• Photon Dynamics acquires Infrared Screening and Inspection Solutions
  JULY 3--Photon Dynamics Inc. (San Jose, CA), a supplier of integrated yield management platforms for the display, electronics, and glass markets, has agreed to acquire the Infrared Screening and Inspection Solutions (ISIS) Division of Advanced Research Technologies Inc. (ART; Saint-Laurent, QC, Canada) for US$5.5 million (CA$8.3 million).
• Edmund Optics to make biocular eyepieces for Northrop Grumman
  JULY 2--Edmund Industrial Optics (Barrington, NJ) has received a contract from Northrop Grumman to produce biocular eyepieces for use in military tanks.
• Bio-Rad buys Virtek Biotech's microarray and robotic technologies
  JULY 1--Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc. (Hercules, CA), a multinational manufacturer and distributor of life science research products and clinical diagnostics, has acquired the microarray and robotics technologies business of Virtek Biotech Canada Inc., a subsidiary of Virtek Vision International Inc. (Waterloo, ON, Canada) and a global developer of precision laser and automation solutions for the transportation, industrial fabrication, and biotechnology industries.
• Dialog Semiconductor buys CMOS imaging business from Sarnoff Corp.
  JULY1--Dialog Semiconductor GmbH (Kirchheim/Teck-Nabern, Germany) has purchased the CMOS imaging business and associated CMOS active pixel sensor (APS) patent portfolio from Sarnoff Corp. (Princeton, NJ), the research and development institute formerly known as RCA Laboratories.
• Braintech licenses robotic systems to Japanese Co.
  June 28--Braintech Inc. (North Vancouver, BC, Canada) announces that its wholly owned subsidiary, Braintech Canada, Inc., has agreed to license robotic systems to Marubeni Corp. (Tokyo, Japan).
• Braintech licenses robotic systems to Japanese Co.
  Braintech Inc. (North Vancouver, BC, Canada) announces that its wholly owned subsidiary Braintech Canada, Inc. has granted an exclusive license to Marubeni Corp. (Tokyo, Japan) to manufacture and distribute Braintech's Vision Guided Robotic (VGR) systems.
• Clemex Technologies unveils record profits
  June 27--Clemex Technologies Inc. (Longueuil, QC, Canada J4G 1T5) posted a record net profit of $505,828 or $0.03 per share for fiscal year 2002.
