  APRIL 19--Adept Technology Inc. (San Jose, CA), a manufacturer of flexible automation for the fiberoptics, telecommunications, and semiconductor industries, has signed Modular Automation, an assembly-automation company based in the United Kingdom, as a Preferred Photonics Partner.
• Senior Philips executive joins Canesta
  APRIL 18--Joep van Beurden has joined Canesta Inc. (San Jose, CA; www.canasta.com) as senior vice president of sales and marketing, a new position.
• Nortech Systems to supply Camera Link cable assemblies for fingerprinting system
  APRIL 18--The Intercon 1 division of Nortech Systems Inc. (Wayzata, MN; www.nortechsys.com) will supply Camera Link cable assemblies to Visionics Corp. (Minnetonka, MN, and Jersey City, NJ; www.visionics.com).
• GX Technology to use Luminus 3-D plane-wave prestack depth migration for imaging in the marine environment
  APRIL 16--GX Technology (GXT; Houston, TX; www.gxt.com) and Institut Francais du Petrole (IFP; www.ifp.fr) have entered into an exclusive worldwide agreement in which GXT will offer seismic depth-imaging services using IFP patented Luminus software.
• AMI Semiconductor acquires Alcatel Microelectronics' mixed-signal business
  APRIL 15--AMI Semiconductor Inc. (AMIS; Pocatello, ID; www.amis.com) and STMicroelectronics (Geneva, Switzerland;www.st.com) have signed an agreement whereby AMIS will purchase from STMicroelectronics the just-acquired mixed-signal business activities of Alcatel Microelectronics.
• EUROPEAN NEWS: JENOPTIK AG and Lambda Physik AG receive funding for nanotechnology joint venture
  APRIL 15--Research-and-development activities of the Jenoptik AG (Jena, Germany; www.jenoptik.com) and Lambda Physik AG (Goettingen, Germany; www.lambdaphysik.com) joint venture, XTREME technologies GmbH, will be funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
