• Silicon shipments slip slightly in third-quarter 2002
  NOVEMBER 5--Worldwide silicon-wafer area shipments declined slightly in 3Q02 compared to 2Q02, according to Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI; Santa Clara, CA; www.semi.org).
• Semiconductor revenues to grow in 2003
  NOVEMBER 4--According to In-Stat/MDR research (www.instat.com/cls-semiconductor.asp), although the recovery of the semiconductor industry has slowed, it has not completely stalled, and it is expected that after a brief pause the recovery will continue during 2003 and into 2004.
• WSTS trims 2003 chip-market estimate
  OCTOBER 30--The World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) organization (Savannah, GA) has stuck to its spring 2002 prediction for the 2002 chip market of $142 billion, up 2.3% over 2001, but reduced its growth estimate for the 2003 chip market from 21.7% to 16.6%.
• 1394 Trade Association cites increasing designs, new products with IEEE 1394/FireWire
  OCTOBER 29--Leaders of the 1394 Trade Association (Dallas, TX) have said the pace of new consumer and computer products with the IEEE 1394/FireWire multimedia bus is accelerating, with almost 130 new announcements from mid-summer through late October.
• IPC releases book-to-bill ratio
  OCTOBER 25--The IPC-Association Connecting Electronics Industries (Northbrook, IL; www.ipc.org) has announced its findings from its monthly Statistical Program.
• Semiconductor-equipment book-to-bill ratio plunges
  OCTOBER 25--The composite book-to-bill ratio for North American-based semiconductor-equipment manufacturers plunged between August and September--the fourth consecutive month of retreat for this important, forward-looking indicator.
• DisplaySearch report projects LCD monitors to overtake CRT monitors in 2004
  OCTOBER 23--DisplaySearch (Austin, TX) has released its 2002 LCD Monitor Strategy Report, which gives information on the desktop monitor industry.
• DisplaySearch forecasts OLED revenues to rise to $3 billion in 2007
  OCTOBER 21--DisplaySearch (Austin, TX), a leader in FPD market research and consulting, has released its third annual Organic Light Emitting Display (OLED) Technology Report forecasting that OLEDs will produce revenues of $85 million in 2002 and rise to $3 billion by 2007.
• B-to-B drops below 1
  OCTOBER 21--The North American-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted $823 million in orders in September and a book-to-bill ratio of 0.84, according to the latest Express Report by Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI;www.semi.org).
• 10th Color Imaging Conference set for November
  OCTOBER 7--The Color Imaging Conference, jointly sponsored by the Society of Information Display and the Society for Image Science and Technology, will be held November 12--15 in Scottsdale, AZ.
