  JULY 21--PCO GmbH (Kelheim, Germany; www.pco.de), a manufacturer of scientific cameras, has purchased The COOKE Corp. (Auburn Hills, MI; www.cookecorp.com).
• Cognex surface-inspection system installed by Asian steel producer
  JULY 18--Cognex Corp. (Natick, MA; www.cognex.com) reports that The Siam United Steel Co. Ltd., a Thailand-based producer of cold rolled-steel sheets, is installing Cognex's SmartView metals surface-inspection system to perform automated quality inspection at its steel mill in Thailand.
• DALSA receives camera order from semiconductor manufacturer
  JULY 18--DALSA Corp. (Waterloo, ON, Canada; www.dalsa.com) has received an order for high-performance digital cameras that totals more than $1.5 million.
• Vision sensors take on new applications
  JULY 17--Cognex UK (Epsom, Surrey, UK; www.cognex.co.uk) has developed vision technology that will soon be incorporated into low-cost vision sensors for new, nonindustrial applications.
• Sira signs 3-D technology license with Stereoscopic Image Systems
  JULY 17--Stereoscopic Image System Ltd. (SIS; East Wellow, UK; www.stereoimagesystems.co.uk) and Sira Electro-Optical Ltd. (Chislehurst, Kent, UK; www.siraeo.co.uk) have signed a technology license that will allow Sira to use the SIS System in the defense and industrial markets.
• RVSI wins factory-automation order
  JULY 17--Robotic Vision Systems Inc. (RVSI; Nashua, NH; www.rvsi.com) reports that its Acuity CiMatrix Division's Visionscape machine-vision product line has been selected by a major consumer personal-care-products company for use in a worldwide automation program to retrofit existing manufacturing lines.
• Media Cybernetics signs China distributor
  JULY 16--Media Cybernetics Inc. (Silver Spring, MD; www.mediacy.com) has signed an agreement with Olympus Optical Co. Ltd. in Japan to distribute its Image-Pro family software and Evolution line of scientific digital cameras in the People's Republic of China.
• Intel celebrates 35th anniversary
  JULY 16--Intel Corporation (Santa Clara, CA; www.intel.com) has kicked off the first of several worldwide events celebrating its first 35 years by preserving state-of-the-art technology products in a "time capsule" ceremony at its headquarters.
• AKAtech to acquire the process automation business unit of Fastcom Technology
  JULY 15--AKAtech SA (www.akatech.ch) and Fastcom Technology SA (Lausanne, Switzerland; www.fastcom-technology.com ) have signed a letter of intent regarding the acquisition by AKAtech of Fastcom's process automation business, which focuses on CMOS smart cameras.
• Sensors Unlimited wins military contract for night-vision imaging system
  JULY 14--Sensors Unlimited Inc. (Princeton, NJ; www.sensorsinc.com) has received a contract from the US Defense Advanced Research Project Agency for a nine-month, $890,000 program to develop an all-solid-state night-vision 640 x 512-pixel (25-μm pitch), room-temperature InGaAs camera.
