• Asian semiconductor industry continues growth
  MARCH 24--The Asia-Pacific region's semiconductor industry is expected to grow 13.2% in 2003 to achieve sales of $64.9 billion.
• Book-to-bill reaches 0.99
  MARCH 24--The North American-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted $782 million in orders in February 2003 and a book-to-bill ratio of 0.99, according to Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI; www.semi.org/).
• China trade shows attract worldwide audience
  MARCH 21--The surging development of the Chinese market is reflected in the success of electronicChina, an International Trade Fair for Components, Assemblies, Electronics Production, and Photonic Technologies with the PCIM China conference, which took place at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) from 12 to 14 March 2003.
• Phone cameras to outsell digital still cameras
  MARCH 21--Digital cameras attached to cellular phones are expected to outsell stand-alone digital still cameras this year, with 50 million or more camera phones shipping in 2003, according to a report by Future Image Inc. (San Mateo, CA).
• US Display Consortium chairman of the board re-elected
  MARCH 17--The US Display Consortium (San Jose, CA; www.usdc.org), a public/private partnership chartered with developing the flat-panel-display industry supply chain, has re-elected Dalen E. Keys chairman of its governing board.
• TFT LCD shipments exceed expectations
  MARCH 17--DisplaySearch (Austin, TX), an FPD market research and consulting firm, revealed in its latest Quarterly Large-Area TFT LCD Shipment Report that large-area (10 in. and greater) TFT LCD shipments have risen 15% Q/Q and 27% Y/Y to a record high of 18.7 million units.
• Machine-vision-inspection-system market exceeds $1 billion
  MARCH 14--New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (San Jose, CA; www.testandmeasurement.frost.com), World Machine Vision Inspection System Markets, reveals that the industry generated revenues totaling $1.12 billion in 2002.
• EU declares Microsoft violates competition
  MARCH 12--A European regulation team is moving toward imposing sanctions against Microsoft, after an internal review concluded that the US software group had breached competition law.
• 2003 TFT LCD equipment spending to rise 24%
  MARCH 11--DisplaySearch (Austin, TX; www.displaysearch.com/usfpd2003) revealed in its latest Quarterly TFT LCD Supply/Demand and Capital Spending Report that TFT LCD equipment spending rose 36% in 2002.
