  May 27--Advanced illumination (Rochester, VT; advancedillumination.com) has appointed Joe Smith, formerly of Schott, to the position of director of sales.
• Applied Image announces exclusive distribution agreement with Sine Patterns
  MAY 25--Applied Image Inc. has added Sine Patterns LLC to the Applied Image Group family of companies with the signing of an agreement on May 17, 2004.
• Hughes HiTech named new distributor of ipd's machine-vision systems
  MAY 25--The intelligent products division of Coreco Imaging Inc., ipd (Billerica, MA; www.goipd.com), has named Hughes HiTech (www.hughesind.com) a New York and Pennsylvania distributor of its machine-vision solutions for manufacturing end users and system integrators.
• Genesis Microchip wins patent-infringement case
  MAY 25--Genesis Microchip Inc. (Alviso, CA; www.gnss.com) has announced that the US International Trade Commission has determined that Media Reality Technologies Inc. (Taipei, Taiwan, China.; www.mrti.com) and Trumpion Microelectronics (Taiwan, ROC; www.trumpion.com.tw) both infringe its US Pat. #5,739,867.
• Automobile manufacturer signs follow-on order for 3-D guidance vision systems
  MAY 24--One of Detroit's "Big 3" automakers has issued a follow-on order for the ISRA Vision (Lansing, MI; www.isravision.com) newest 3-D machine-vision system, the MONO3D single-camera 3-D machine-vision system, bringing the total number of MONO3D systems for powertrain applications at this location to 24.
• Mobile cameras read Swedish meters
  MAY 24--Swedish power companies are expected within a period of five years to invest a minimum of SEK 10 billion in systems for collecting meter-reading data.

  MAY 20--Curtiss-Wright Controls Inc. (www.curtisswright.com) has signed a purchase agreement to acquire Primagraphics Limited (www.primagraphics.co.uk), the command & control, video, and graphics specialist, for approximately US$21 million.
