• Sofradir wins contract to supply bispectral IR detector
  MARCH 8--Sofradir (Veurey-Voroize, France; www.sofradir.com)has signed a €3.2 million (US$4.2 million) contract with NEC Toshiba Space to supply a custom-made bispectral long-wavelength infrared detector.
• Inventor of iris recognition joins L-1 Identity Solutions
  MARCH 7--Professor John Daugman, the scientist who invented iris recognition, has signed a three-year consulting agreement with L-1 Identity Solutions (Stamford, CT, USA; www.l1id.com) as chief scientist for iris recognition.
• DIPIX Technologies gets contract for on-line inspection system
  MARCH 7--A large food-production company in the Fortune 500 has purchased a number of DIPIX Technologies (Ottawa, Canada) automated tortilla-inspection systems in a contract worth more than US$ 600K.
• Smith Micro issued image-compression patent
  MARCH 5--Smith Micro Software (Aliso Viejo, CA, USA; www.smithmicro.com) has been issued US Patent No. 7,184,603, "System and Method for Lossless Compression of Digital Images," by the US Patent and Trademark Office (Washington, DC, USA; www.uspto.gov).
• Basler announces preliminary 2006 results and increase in turnover
  MARCH 2--Basler-VC (Ahrensburg, Germany) ended 2006 with a substantial increase in turnover and earnings. Turnover rose by 46% to €23.29 million (2005: €15.9 million).
• Cypress announces sale of automotive-image-sensor business
  MARCH 1--Cypress Semiconductor (San Jose, CA, USA; www.cypress.com) has entered into a definitive agreement to sell its SMaL Camera Technologies subsidiary to Sensata Technologies (Attleboro, MA, USA; www.sensata.com).
• New distributor in Japan for eXcite camera series
  MARCH 1--Basler-VC (Ahrensburg, Germany; www.basler-vc.com) has chosen LinX (Yokohama, Japan; www.linx.jp) as its sales representative for the eXcite camera line in Japan.
• Matrox cofounder to receive national honor
  MARCH 1--Lorne Trottier, cofounder of The Matrox (Dorval, QC, Canada) group of companies, has been named to the Order of Canada.
• ISRA VISION AG: profitable growth continues
  FEBRUARY 28--ISRA VISION AG (Darmstadt, Germany; www.isravision.com ) saw a continuation of its excellent business development of the past few years in the first quarter of FY2006/2007.
• Virtualscopics finalizes contracts with US Department Of Defense
  FEBRUARY 27--VirtualScopics (Rochester, NY, USA), a developer of image-based biomarker solutions, has begun work on two research contracts from the US Department of Defense totaling $2.2 million.
