The open-platform Optix machine-vision system is based on a full-length PCI card for PC platforms. It can run vision programs independently of the PC processor, eliminating interruption of other programs running concurrently on the computer. The OptixPCI card contains a multitasking operating system that prioritizes and schedules vision tasks between the vision and host processors, a field-programmable gate array image-acquisition system that supports a variety of cameras and analog camera inputs for 1k ¥ 1k images up to 35 MHz, and a custom image-processing chip that incorporates a tool library for handling most image-processing tasks. Programming support includes Visual Basic and Windows NT, as well as interoperability with third-party software packages.
