A white paper available for download from Vision Systems Design introduces the reader to the CoaXPress (CXP) interface, compares it to established standards such as Camera Link and GigE Vision, describes the applications for which it is best suited, and discusses how this standard may evolve.

Provided by Matrox Imaging, the paper outlines the high-speed CXP interface standard, starting with its initial specification by camera and frame grabber vendors and subsequent development and ratification by the Automated Imaging Association (AIA), European Machine Vision Association (EMVA), and Japan Industrial Imaging Association (JIIA). Additional information details the characteristics and advantages of CXP as compared to other industrial camera interfaces. The characteristics of CXP are further discussed in relation to applications that it supports, as well as the potential evolution of the standard and interface as machine-vision system needs change over time.

The paper "Is CXP right for you?" is available for free download to anyone who provides contact information. You can download the white paper here.
