The UK Industrial Vision Association (UKIVA) has announced that it is now accepting submissions for the third annual "Most Innovative Machine Vision Project" award, which is part of the Processing & Packaging Manufacturing Association Group Industry Awards and is given out to recognize the most innovative vision system installed in the period between January 2013 and June 2014.
The award—which is open to all vision equipment suppliers, system integrators, and end users—was won in 2013 by STEMMER IMAGING for its C-Cell bread and baked product quality assessment imaging system. The C-Cell system produces images of crumb cell structure and distribution in baked products.
Originally developed as a prototype by Campden BRI, the C-Cell color bakery instrument was redesigned and commercialized by Calibre Control International Ltd, while Stemmer Imaging redefined both the camera and lighting systems. STEMMER utilized JAI GigE Vision cameras, improved illumination (LED lighting from CCS America, and LED controller from Gardasoft) and updated control code to create a machine vision configuration that delivers all of the needs of the application. STEMMER IMAGING will sponsor this year’s award, which will be judged by a fully independent panel of industry specialists. Judges will look for an application that increases productivity and will also consider design, safety, and creativity aspects as well. Those interested in submitting a free entry should write a description of 800 words or less on why their application should win and submit it by email to [email protected] or by post to PPMA Group 2014 Awards, PPMA Ltd, 34 Stafford Road, Wallington Surrey SM6 9AA by April 25.
Award winners will be announced on September 30, 2014 at the PPMA show.
