Interview from the VISION show floor: Baumer

Somewhere toward the middle-to-end of Wednesday, the second day of the VISION show, I met with a few folks from Baumer.

As was the case with my previous interviews, I led off by asking about their views of the machine vision industry and whether or not they thought it was healthy.

"It is still an industry that is growing globally," said Nicole Marofsky, who handles marketing communication for the Vision Competence Center at Baumer. "There is a growing need for automation and cost efficiency especially in the Asian and American markets, as well as a need to grow to meet new requirements."

(Editor’s note: What do you think? Will the industry grow in 2015? Let us know here.)

Volker Zipprich-Rasch, Head of Product Management, Baumer Vision Competence Center, agreed, noting that the industry is still growing in many different markets.

"Of course, it will grow in all areas where automation increases, because advancing automation reduces costs for the manufacturer and increases the efficiency. Here, machine vision is an important technology, which gives the mechanical engineers, OEMs, or system integrators the opportunity to stay competitive in the market. So, automation and machine vision will grow together more and more tightly."

When it comes to the new product development process, Marofsky notes that the company’s product managers are in close contact with customers, and that products are developed to fulfill customer needs.

"Additionally, we want to make sure that our customers will obtain a high return on their investments in vision systems,” explained Marofsky."

Zipprich-Rasch expounded:

"A continuous trend (of the company) is to have the customer solution and its total costs in mind and to provide a product portfolio that allows a flexible and efficient realization depending on the application needs," he said. "Product categories as cameras, smart vision products and sensors are getting more blurred. Baumer addresses this trend by offering a wide portfolio of industrial cameras, vision sensors and image sensors, and will shape it further in the future."

In addition, it is Baumer’s diverse portfolio merging with cutting-edge technologies which could help lead to company growth, suggested Marofsky.

“We offer a broad range of products for different applications across varied industries, and automation is needed everywhere.”
