Interview from the VISION show floor: e2v

Nov. 11, 2014
During the VISION 2014 show, I sat down for extended meetings with a number of international vision companies in order to
ask targeted questions about their company and the industry overall. For the first of these meetings, I met with Sébastien Teysseyre, Head of Marketing and Solution Creation Team, High Performance Imaging Solutions, and Jessica Broom, group marketing communications manager, of e2v.

As mentioned in my "VISION 2014 thoughts and takeaways" blog, I met with easily more than 20 vision companies from all over the world at the VISION show in Stuttgart, Germany. Some of these meetings were short introductions and the customary exchanging of pleasantries, but for others, I sat down for extended meetings to ask a number of targeted questions about their company and the industry overall. For these, a series of articles will be written based on the conversations I had.

The very first meeting I had on the opening day of the show was with Sébastien Teysseyre, Head of Marketing and Solution Creation Team, High Performance Imaging Solutions, and Jessica Broom, group marketing communications manager, of e2v.

Prior to this, however, I sat in on the first Industrial Vision Days session, in which Anne Wendel, VDMA machine vision provided an overview of the German and European machine vision markets which indicated that the industry is on the rise. Specifically, in 2014 alone, Wendel indicated that a minimum of 10% growth to $1.77 billion in sales is expected, and that 2015 could represent an even larger leap. In addition to this, a number of recent articles and reports show that the global industry could see a jump as well. These include:

Overall market health was a topic I wanted to discuss with as many people as possible during the show, so I brought the question to the table at the e2v booth. Now, going into the meeting, I knew that e2v recently acquired Spanish CMOS image sensor company AnaFocus, and that the company split its imaging business into two businesses in order to accelerate growth—so the trend of rising sales figures was something that e2v was not only witnessing industry wide, but was experiencing firsthand as a company. When asked to confirm this, Teysseyre agreed, noting that "Interoperability is a key driver for e2v."
