In this Google Hangout video chat, Ritchie Logan, Vice President of Business Development at odos imaging, discusses his company’s recent achievement, its unique technology, and the state of the machine vision industry.

Despite having been founded only four years ago, odos imaging won the 2014 VISION award for its 3D Time of Flight real.iZ sensor system and camera. The system uses a pulsed Time of Flight technology which captures both the ambient light intensity of a scene, and the range to reach pixel within the scene. For odos, receiving the award was a humbling experience.

"As you can imagine, we were delighted and honored to receive the VISION award this year," he said. "odos imaging is a relatively new player in the machine vision industry, having only really exhibited for the very first time at VISION 2012. So to win the award this year means we’ve come an incredibly long way in a short period of time."

Logan explained that the real.iZ system combines all the features of a high-end machine vision camera with the capabilities to capture 3D depth information on a pixel-by-pixel basis, a concept described by odos most simply as "machine vision with depth."

In addition to describing his company’s 3D camera, Logan also discussed the state of the machine vision industry, noting that company has seen a rise in what is typically thought of as non-industrial imaging applications, which is helping to drive overall growth. These include such applications as harvesting, agriculture, and traffic.

In addition, Logan looked toward possible areas of growth moving forward, as well as his company’s forthcoming, higher-resolution real.kZ 3D camera. Check out the interview to learn about what Logan had to say about these topics and more.
