Another first time occurrence to be held at the show will be the new "Start-up World" exhibition area, which is being created in collaboration with Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen (AZO), and will act as an innovation platform for young photonics companies.
In this area, a Photonics Competition will be held, in which international start-up companies can compete in the general optics category, as well as a 3D printing category. Companies that have been around for less than 5 years can enter their products, which can be market-ready, on the verge of being market-ready, or in the market implementation phase, to a wide industrial audience at the show, while also connecting with potential investors.
A panel of experts is being appointed, and will judge each category, both of which receive prizes. Falk Strascheg, successful company founder and experienced venture capitalist, will chair the jury and support the initiative as its patron.
"After the founding phase, market access is a critical milestone for young companies," he said. "The LASER World of PHOTONICS is the ideal platform for such companies to develop an industry network and attract potential investors."
He added, "Start-up companies are an important source of innovative ideas. There is a real transfer of knowledge on platforms such as these. Established photonics industry players also have the opportunity to meet highly talented, potential employees."
